"Mother Will 'Never Forget' Pope Kissing Baby," so goes the news report. Fortunately the baby is too young to actually remember this, so not giving it's permission is somewhat negated.
What worries me is that the mother is going to use this as a "stick" to enforce "good behaviour" on the child for the rest of her life: "Behave yourself, dear. The Pope didn't kiss you so you could spit porridge at your sister. Now stop it!"
I thought that was the whole purpose of religion. Control.

Pro You've put your finger on it there! To control atheists or agnostics, you have to use logic and actually have a good reason for everything. That's what scares them!

Hmmm...did you check out Jack's video of Stephen Fry? Very good condemnation of the Church and clearly felt very deeply...the crone, Widdicombe, was sitting there looking thoroughly disgruntled...LOL...

Pro Hi Jen, I have now watched the Stephen Fry debate you mention, and am pleased to note how effective Fry and Hichins were in persuading the audience - a triumph of common sense, I must say. Thanks for calling my attention to it. 
I have heard Stephen Fry on the subject before and he always presents a good case against religion generally.
Pity the baby didn't chuck up if you ask me, but then I'm just a miserable git
