According to today's BBC web-news, the Archbishop of Westminster is calling on Catholics in England and Wales to make their faith more visible by saying "God bless you" and genuflecting more often.
I have said so before, and I'll say it again: I regard anyone "blessing" me without invitation as perpetrating Religious Abuse. or at the very least Philosophical Assault. How would people like it if I went round gratuitously cursing them?
Am I being too sensitive here, or is it a valid point?
Funny that, I often see motorists genuflecting at people who 'get in the way'... never occurred to me they were Christian!

Pro I remember Dave Allen ending his shows with "...and may your god go with you." to which we (my atheist family) used to add on his behalf, "...and good riddance too!"
Mind you he made good money out of religion, HeeHee!

I take your point and would be inclined to agree,but some people say it who genuinly wish you well,so it seems a shame to throw it back in their faces,but it does make me cringe.

Pro Good point, one may have to make exceptions for those who are relatively harmless. What really got my goat as a teenager lying in a hospital bed heavily plastered and unable to move, and having the hospital chaplain pray over me after I had specifically refused his request!

Pro I had a similar run in with a hospital chaplain last year when I was able to totally confuse one dried-out old b*stard who was trolling the outpatients looking for victims. I wasted half an hour of his time lecturing him on church architecture before informing him that it was ironic that they were just empty boxes and he was effectively redundant. He stormed out muttering, much to my delight.

BTW....my newsreel just came up with this one...
The spiritual head of the Anglican Church, Archbishop Rowan Williams, backed gay people becoming bishops on Saturday as long as they remain celibate, risking more divisions within the Church on the issue.
Making one of the most explicit statements he has made on the subject, the head of the Church of England told the Times newspaper that he had "no problem" with their consecration.

I think you misunderstood Techno's worry: it is not about religion, but about the droplets of saliva that might possibly land on food when someone is praying over it.

Having a cat, or a dog (or even a saw, or many other animals) acting in religious quality is not at all unusual as you think, it depends on what religion you practice.
Many religions worship animals as gods. For instance, the Celtic religion(s) -'modern Celts' included - worship animals as gods, either as 'main god', or 'auxiliary deities', like: the Cat (Caoit, Cat), the Dog (Abach, Madadh), the Pig (Muc), or the Saw (Goddess Cerridwen is known as the White Sow).
The probability that these anmals' saliva could land on your food is very high, and, depending on the position the deities take (related to your food) when they are talking to you during religious ceremonies, it is not excluded that also something else than their saliva might land/drop on your food. Something to LOL at, surely.
