I don't condone smoking, however I have the odd fag now and again. Never indoors and never in the company of other people. I keep myself to myself. I do what I want to do in my own time and refuse to be told what to do by anyone. I wasn't put on this earth to be used and abused by other people. I arrived equal and will not be made detrimentally unequal by anyone.

This article is pure hypocritical though. Andrew Lansley is a shooter. On the glorious 12th, he and his fellow public school landowner & politician pals, blast away at totally harmless birds with a big harmful gun. It's indiscriminate as well. Birds are farmed and reared with tender loving care purely and simply to be blasted to smithereens. They might as well breed humans for the same thing, feed them up, train them until fit then let them out, get them to run and shoot them. What is the difference?
While these gobsworths are telling people what is good for them, what they should and shouldn't do, they go about their lives in the same way as their fathers and fathers before them did, hunting, shooting and basically forcing poor people to work for low wages, on their lands, whether tea plantations, South African vineyards or moorlands.
If smoking is no longer part of life, then neither is drinking alcohol, shooting and hunting for fun and neither is slavery, which to us here in the UK rarely raises it's head but is still rife in many countries where these rich bigots own vast areas of land. It's what keeps them rich.
Hypocrites the lot of them.

Huh...I had a row in the supermarket today (Sainsbury).
Tesco covered there fag content about a month or so ago..Sainsbury have theirs open for all to see.....apparently it is 'floor space'
It should be a blanket ban if they want to do something, but like you I have the occassional one. -

I am not sure it is required to stop people seeing them, I think it is a far bigger issue and as you say there are many other issues.

Don't worry, smoking will never be banned as long as it is such a good earner for the treasury.

Some people are being reared to be blasted to smithereens. They are known as canon fodder.
I don't condone smoking or the affects of smoking. The rebellion of youth will make sure that they find what is hidden and use it in the way they choose. People truly addicted will try to continue to smoke. It has always been thus. If the Governments really wanted to do away with smoking, no cigarettes would be manufactured for sale; at least not here in the UK. However, they cannot go that far. There'd be too many banana skins to cope with if they tried. -

Hypocrites all right. I don't have a problem with anybody smoking in their own company. We led the charge for smoking bans in bars, clubs and public buildings, but now the tobacco factory in Petone, in Lower Hutt, has got the contract to make millions of cigarettes for the Aussies.
