Hi to everybody...thought some of us might be interested to read this interview with Dennis Skinner...one of the last of the true Socialists left in the Labour Party...

And yet . . .
Having watched live tv coverage of the aftermath of the IRA bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton during the 1984 tory conference, when I was living in Sussex, I was genuinely upset to hear Mr.Skinner's disgusting comments, some years ago when both he and Norman Tebbit were guests on Radio4's Any Questions, when he disgustingly ridiculed NT's cries for help when he was buried under rubble, and suffering electric shocks from live wires.
Before I heard Skinner say that I respected his Socialist credentials.

you have no idea then, Martin, how loathed (hated) the Conservatives were then, and still are by Socialists, and both our responses to the bombing were 'they bloody missed her!'...and so did thousands of people around the country, and we still say the same thing...Thatcher ruined our country and Norman Tebbit was a right wing bastard of the first order who was her ardent supporter, and still is a far right wing bastard...Sorry, Martin, there are times when feelings spill out and, for Dennis Skinner, and thousands around this country, that was just such a time...Tebbit's unfortunate wife was the real victim, but then she married him so must be just as bad as him...Had Thatcher been taken out then, we might have a very different country...not all our assets sold off to every Tom, Dick or Harry around the world, and a rip off capitalist society we have now...

I know MT callously killed off the British coal mining industry but I don't see how you, as a highly intelligent person, can say that she ruined the country.
And Blair made it alright again ?

I did not think Blair put all together again!...Blair was brought in to continue Thatcher's work...that's why she was the first person he invited to Downing Street after he became PM, and she came out saying she didn't know where he came from but she liked him...I bet she did...recognized a kindred spirit...Blair was a Conservative at University and he remained one when he was handed the Labour party after John Smith conveniently died...as a highly intelligent person, Martin, I'm not blind, I know Thatcher ruined this country...even the old Conservatives said she was selling off all the family silver...and I've worked in places that have given me an insight into areas you know nothing about...we have a strong disagreement here, but then people cannot agree on everything...and lots of people disagree with my political views, nothing new there, but, unlike a lot of people here, I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to dirty politics...unfortunately...

I can't know what you're referring to if you don't say what it is.
I can well believe that your CND group may well have been infiltrated by at least one Mi5 agent or affiliate.
But sinister things have occured under Labour as well as tory governments.
If you'd prefer to be ruled by IRA thugs and gangsters that's your prerogative.
We all have differing experiences of and approaches to life, which we cannot expect others to understand.
Of course feel free to delete me from your blog friends list if you wish. Which would somewhat sadden me, but I would cope with it.

Why on earth should I want to delete you from my blog friends, Martin? We don't agree on this issue...so what...I don't agree with the political views of some of my friends here but wouldn't dream of deleting them because of them...I had only one or two Labour friends where I used to live...all of the rest were rank and file Tories...probably why most treated me as a charity case...HLOL...but there we go...I lived for 22 years in a Tory heartland and still in one here...that's life...but, if you really value your society and your country, I can't see how you cannot have strong political views and that has to involve some conflict with those you oppose...and I hate to remind you but in Ireland many millions didn't consider the IRA thugs and gangsters but people trying to unite their country and get rid of the British invaders...
And no, I wouldn't choose to be ruled by them...obviously...daft comment that... Must go and have my breakfast now...

Martin, may I just intervene for a moment. The whole ethos of this group is to encourage debate, and your and Jens contributions are invaluable. Keep up the discussions and arguments but for crying out loud do not fall out over them.
I, like Jen, am a died in the wool socialist but live in the real world too and can most times see both sides of the debate.
Keep it up, your side is as necessary as my side if we are to continue to live in our version of democracy. At least we are not yet jailed in this country for opposing the ruling elites position.

Thanks. I don't believe that Jenny and I have fallen out.
There's much more I could say but choose not to as I've pretty much made my point, and there's no way I can convince Jen to agree with me on one or two issues that are dear to her heart, and vice-versa.
I am neither a right or left winger, just, in my opinion, a realist.
